From Mexico to Carlisle: Taqueria Laurita shares authentic Mexican cuisine (Review)
Carlisle is a consumer’s playground, teeming full of new and upcoming businesses all the time. One of the newest additions to the High Street strip is Taqueria Laurita.
Taqueria Laurita is a new little hole-in-the-wall restaurant located at 150 W. High Street, next to the Colors on High salon. The décor inside is simple but sparse. The walls are painted a light blue and there is a small collection of tables and chairs set up in friendly four and six-tops. A nice counter with barstools lines the windows.
The menu, like the décor, is also simple and slightly limited. Taqueria Laurita offers tacos, quesadillas, tostadas, burritos, and chips as main fare.
The menu may seem plain but it features exotic ingredients that include cow tongue, cow stomach, and pumpkin seeds. They even have a Weekly Taco Feature, cleverly nicknamed the ‘WTF’ that is changed every week. Taqueria Laurita is entirely gluten free and also offers several vegetarian dishes. Authentic Mexican sodas are also available for purchase.
Taqueria Laurita has an authentic Mexican taste. Instead of using flour tortillas, which most Americans have become accustomed to and may associate with Mexican food, they use corn tortillas, which creates a unique and possibly off-putting taste.
Taqueria Laurita has a casual vibe to it. To order food, a customer must wait in line at the counter and then wait for their number to be called so they can pick up their order. With everything on the menu being under $4.95+tax, (except for the 4 for $9.95 taco deal), Taqueria Laurita is affordable, but the portion isn’t very big, which may be disappointing. Also you have to bus your own table.
The main purpose of Taqueria Laurita is to provide authentic Mexican food, so for those who like this type of food, this could be a great place for you. However, those of you that are accustomed to flour tortillas and store-bought taco seasoning, Taqueria Laurita might not be what you are looking to eat.
Taqueria Laurita is located at 150 W. High Street in Carlisle. Open Tuesday through Thursday, 6 pm to 1 am., and Friday and Saturday, 6 pm to 2:30 am.
