‘1989’ album is pop and it’s ‘poppin’ (Review)
Official Music Video (VEVO)
Taylor Swift has been an icon in the public eye for several years. The Pennsylvania native has been active in the music industry since 2004 with five albums under her belt, the most recent being 1989.
Released on Oct 27, 2014, 1989 has 13 tracks, all of which Swift helped write. The album genre is pop, which is different from what Swift usually dabbles in. Her previous genre was country.
This album has a fresh feel, with many upbeat songs making an appearance. “Shake It Off”, “Style”, and “Bad Blood” are pretty lively songs that have caused many ‘ear-worms’. Taylor’s songs always seem to have an underlying message. “Shake It Off” is Taylor’s way of telling all fans and haters that she, and everyone else being subjected to negative attention, should just ‘shake it off’.
“Blank Space” is also a favorite of many. “Blank Space” is a song describing how everyone thinks Swift really is. “Blank Space” is her way of using all the critics’ opinions against them. The video for this song is fantastic (as seen above), and many are calling it the Gone Girl of music videos.
One downside of 1989 is that it gets old quickly. After several listens, I was ready to listen to something else. That being said, 1989 is a great album to sing along to and can surely be a great birthday gift or holiday gift for a friend or loved one!

1. “Welcome to New York”
