Revival might be Selena Gomez’s most successful album yet. Within the first day of release, the album went certified gold in Brazil and the lead single “Good For You” peaked to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming certified platinum.

My personal favorite track, “Same Old Love,” will leave you obsessed. The song was co-written by Charli XCX who also provides background vocals. Lyrically, the song describes a cliché breakup.

“Sober” has an 80’s inspired tempo that tells a personal story of heartbreak. “You don’t know how to love me when you’re sober,” Gomez says at the chorus. The only problem with this track is that it can be easily be mistaken as another dance track instead of an emotional ballad.

Gomez embraces her Latin roots with the tenth track “Body Heat.” The song has tasteful Latin sound mixed with a regular dance beat.

Revival is a huge step up from her techno-pop disaster album, Stars Dance. Gomez brings maturity and lyrically depth to this album which I applaud her for.
