Justin Bieber vs. One Direction: Who Will Top the Charts? (Review)
Major pop sensations Justin Bieber and One Direction go head to head to compete for the #1 on the charts. Both artists are releasing their albums on November 13, which can easily damage each other’s album sales.
Bieber hasn’t released an album since 2012’s Believe so the hype for his new album, Purpose, is extreme. The highly anticipated comeback album already has hit singles like “What Do You Mean?” that peaked at #1 on Billboard Hot 100 and went Platinum, and the dancehall-inspired second single “Sorry” also produced by EDM’s biggest artist, Skrillex, which has already gone to #2 on Billboard. With hot singles, Purpose is almost bound to go #1.
Made In the A.M. is One Direction’s first album without former bandmate, Zayn Malik which adds pressure for them to succeed or it would look like they desperately need Malik.
So far, that’s what it seems like, even though the fifth album’s lead single “Drag Me Down” showed success by becoming an instant in charting many European charts and sold 349,000 digital copies in the US in the first week of its release. The not-so-impressive second single “Perfect” disappointingly debuted at #10 on Billboard but happened to also break The Beatles’ record for the most top 10 Hot 100 debuts among bands.
With both highly anticipated albums dropping at the same time, it will be interesting to see which album will have the biggest first week sales.
