Failed romance leads to success for Maroon 5 (Review)
Maroon 5 knows what’s “Best 4 U” as their new album shows.
Red Pill Blues, Maroon 5’s new album, shows the theme of failed romance rather consistently throughout the whole album and is also very relevant in their previous albums as well. It is a 15-song album which lasts a little over an hour with each song being a little over 3 minutes.
Although this is a pretty consistent theme, that isn’t solely what it’s about. It also contains some signs of successful love as well. Red Pill Blues has a softer upbeat tone to it, meaning that it is upbeat but also has more of a melancholy feel to it. Considering the album has a general theme of love and mainly failed love, it makes the rather sad tone perfect for their album.
The album includes songs like “Bet My Heart,” which has an electronic sound but also has a great acoustic.
Many of their old albums include instruments such as guitar, drums, bass, and more which seem to be a part of the new album as well. A lot of what is used in their previous albums is also used in their new album, such as the instruments, which help to make not only their albums consistent but also them as musicians as well.
Red Pill Blues features artists like SZA, Kendrick Lamar, Future, A$AP Rocky, and many more popular artists to help really make this album worth listening to.
Although this album has many upsides to it, it also has its downsides. In the song “Closure,” there is an extremely long instrumental part in it. The instrumental is a great addition to a song but it is entirely way too long, in my opinion, and it kind of takes away from the lyrics of the song. As the instrumental continues on, you also forget it is still the same song and might even skip right through it considering it is over half of the song.
In addition to this, there are a couple songs that are rather repetitive. These songs include, “Don’t Wanna Know,” and “What Lovers Do,” as well as others but these are just a few of the major ones. Despite the repetitiveness, these songs are very catchy and great to sing to in the car with friends or family.
The album also includes explicit songs such as “Denim Jacket” and “Cold (ft. Future)”. There are only two songs that are explicit which makes it family friendly for the most part considering that the explicit songs are limited.
The album cover includes a rather interesting take on what’s popular today. It includes all seven of the members wearing a different Snapchat filter. Since Snapchat is extremely popular within teens, the album cover appeals to teens and gets them curious as to what it is about and want to listen to the album.
Red Pill Blues is definitely an album worth listening to. It has a variety of styles of music all within one album and features popular artists that many teens like.
