During the Christmas season, Carlisle High School students and staff worked to raise over $2000 to help families within the community.

This December the whole school came together as one to work towards a goal of giving five separate families a Christmas, which they probably wouldn’t have gotten in other circumstances, through the Adopt a Family campaign.

“It has a huge impact on the families we help. The families that are selected would have very little for the holidays if we did not help them,” said Junior Class Council co-adviser and Adopt a Family organizer Jennifer Mohr.

Class council members from all four grade levels have organized this fundraiser, and plan to go out shopping once all of the money has been collected from the students and staff.

Last year, a total of 3100 dollars was raised for multiple families who were in need.

“We’re doing good in the community and it helps families that are less fortunate have an enjoyable Christmas too,” said sophomore Shawna Winkleman.

This fundraiser began ten years ago, when a Junior Class Council member wanted to help a local family in need.  During the first two years of Adopt a Family, Junior class council sold ornaments at lunch to try and raise money.  It wasn’t until the third year of the fundraiser that all class councils joined together to try and raise money.  The money goes to buying the children in the family toys/gifts, and the money is also used to purchase gift cards for groceries.

“Helping those in need is always a good thing.  If we can promote those positive values in teenagers that’s even better,” said Honors Chemistry teacher Sarah Deitch.
