MiniTHON blasts off beyond expectations
CHS raises over $10,000 more than expected goal during the first annual miniTHON.
Carlisle’s first annual miniTHON took place Friday, March 21, and exceeded the expectations of many.
With a goal in mind of $8,000, the hard work and dedication of various organizations and students allowed the event to” blast” past their goal and raise $18,477.20. “Blasting Off for a Cure” was this year’s theme for the miniTHON.
“We are still receiving donations in the mail. It exceeded our expectations; our goal was $8,000 so we raised over $10,000 more than our goal. We also only fundraised for about two months,” said miniTHON student advisor Justine Douglas.
Around 160 students attended, making the night a fun night with friends while also fundraising for the kids.
“Although everyone’s feet hurt by 3 am and everyone was tired, we had to remember our pain wasn’t nearly as bad as the pain of the kids fighting for their lives everyday,” said committee member Alexa Seras.
Events such as Wingin’ It!, line dancing, volleyball and dodgeball tournaments, and Coffeehouse happened all throughout the night to keep students and faculty awake and moving.
“While at miniTHON, there were many activities that kept the night rolling and it was a great experience,” said junior Sydney Keller, who attended the event this year.
All proceeds benefit the Four Diamonds Fund, which is an organization that raises money for families affect by childhood cancer. This fund is directly related to Hershey Medical Center, where families seek medical treatment as well emotional support.

I’m really glad that Thon has made its way to CHS. Childhood cancer sadly effects a lot of families and is a hard thing to go through. But I am glad that we have raised so much money to help these children and families. I really hope CHS continues to do Thon and help these families!

I am so glad that CHS finally had its first Mini Thon. It was so amazing knowing that the students of CHS were able to raise over $18,000 for cancer patients. Im sure that all of this money will be able to help further any reasearch doing done on current cancer patients.

Our efforts to surpass our goal this year have shined to the Carlisle Community. I’d like to pay a visit to THON next year to see how much more money we can raise next year.

I think that Carlisle doing the Mini-Thon was a great idea! It was so near and dear to our hearts because most that participated in the event have had or have loved ones that have cancer; cancer is never a good thing, but it is something that happens to a lot of people in the U.S. Raising more than $10,000 past the school’s goal is awesome; it just goes to show with a few events and caring people, Carlisle High School can do anything they want! Helping all those kids will save somebody’s life which is what we would have wanted before some of us lost our loved ones! I was in the fashion show and even though I couldn’t stay all night being apart of the fashion show really meant a lot to me; I lost my great-grandmother to Cancer and participating in the fashion show helped me be a part of saving a life. “Blasting Off For A Cure’ is only the start of something that CHS can be prosperious in, don’t lose motivation but gain determination!
