November Student of the Month: Allison Neslund
Allison Neslund
Freshmen Class President
Q1: How have you been juggling the transition into high school as well as your role as president of your class?
A1: Transitioning into high school has definitely been a challenge, compared to middle school. There definitely have already been some nights where I’ve been up until 1 a.m. doing school work, especially with having field hockey as well, and I’m sure there are many more to come. Being president is equally as time consuming, but having a hard-working group of kids definitely eases the load. Additionally Mr. Dutrey, head of Freshman Class Council, has been extraordinarily understanding and has helped me to manage a lot of the work. This great group made my transition ten times easier and helped me to get away from some of the stress that came with high school.
Q2: What’s involved in being the president of your class? What responsibilities have you taken on?
A2: Being class president involves a lot of communication between the group and teachers. It has definitely been hectic, especially around big events like homecoming. Long hours after school cutting and pasting strips of paper… it’s a lot more tedious than it sounds, believe me! But again, having a great group of kids and leader makes it fun.
Q3: What made you want to run for this position?
A3: Running for president was actually a little joke between my sister and I for a while. She kept telling me I should run for president, but I laughed it off. After I put some thought into it, I realized that being president was something I was really interested in!
Q4: Are you going to run for it in the future?
A4: OF COURSE I WILL RUN FOR PRESIDENT!!! Even though we aren’t very far into this school year yet, I have had a blast meeting new kids and it is a super rad environment to be in! I love having goals set and meeting them because I get a great sense of pride, as I do in all of my work. Being Freshman Class President is one of the goals I’m working and I have loved every second of it. I can’t wait to try to tackle my goal in Sophomore, Junior, and Senior year too.
