Have You Herd? Mini Thon
January 13, 2015
The Mini-Thon Club is a club at Carlisle High School that is really dedicated to helping children with pediatric cancer. The Mini-Thon event, a fundraiser for the Four Diamonds Fund, is a twelve hour dance-a-thon where students come and donate at least thirty five dollars which goes towards helping the children with pediatric cancer.
But dancing is not the only thing that they do. They also have sports events like basketball, plus they ask Coffeehouse performers and Wingin’ it! to come and entertain the students.
This year, Mini Thon will be held on February 6-7.
This year, Mini-Thon will represent the end of Winter Week.
“We will have Winter Ball, then the Winter Fest week, and then Mini-Thon,” said senior student adviser Justine Douglas. “I think this will bring a lot more participants because they can get excited during the week.”
Junior Laural Anderson said,”I can’t wait to go to Mini Thon again this year. It is so much fun and such a great and easy way to help families in need. Also it just feels good to do something great that can change people’s lives forever.”
Music teacher Dan Schade and science teacher Jen Mohr are the advisers of the club. During a club period, the students discuss what they should do during the dance-a-thon. They also discuss what fundraisers they should organize and they try to get donations from large organizations so that they can donate more money to the children that have pediatric cancer.
Senior Rachel Dundorf, a member of the Mini-Thon club, said, “Mini Thon brings the entire school together through something we all care about, and put our hearts into something other than sports or musicals but we can all work together to find a cure for pediatric cancer.”
To kick off this year’s fundraising campaign, there will be a pep rally January 16 during school and the Mini Thon club is going to be there, trying to let everyone know all about the Four Diamonds Fund and encourage people to participate.
The Four Diamonds charity is for kids with pediatric cancer and the donations from Mini-Thon go to the families to make sure that they will not have to pay the bills or treatment for their children.

THON is an awesome program and I am so excited that Carlisle has gotten involved in it! Mini–THONs are a great way for students to raise money for and encourage those with pediatric cancer.

I think this is such a great club! Of course I knew about pediatric cancer, but it is not something I think about every day. This is a great way to remind people that pediatric cancer affects the lives of many children and we should be grateful for what we have.

I love the new direction Mini-Thon took in representing itself to the school in the pep rally. As a former member of the comittee I’m more then excited to participate this year!

Mini – Thon was such a great experience for me last year and I am so glad that they are bringing it back this year. I think that cramming all these activities into a span of a few weeks however is a bit much. Personally I think it is important to separate events like the ones listed above by at least three weeks that way we can get hype for different things , and it gives people something to look forward to in these cold winter months. While I will be attending all these events I do wish they were more spread out.

Having Mini-Thon at Carlisle is a great way to get the students involved in a great cause. It raises awareness about childhood cancer and reminds people that everyone can make a difference in the world. Winter Spirit Week is another great way to get students involved and show them that it isn’t that difficult to make a change in the world.

The pep rally was really fun! Thanks to everyone involved. Mini-Thon is indeed a great event for the school. It gives us a change to get together and have fun while also helping those in need. I can’t wait for this years Mini-Thon!

Mini Thon was extremely fun last year!! I am sure Justine and the rest of the Mini Thon Committee have even better activities planned to make this year even better than the last!!

Starting mini-thon at CHS was a great way for people to raise awareness and of course, raise money for cancer research. Way to go Justine for leading the charge!

I think that having mini thon be talked about in such a public way in our school was really beneficial to the cause. Because everyone was together in one room, only one presenter had to be present in order for the entire study body to learn about the cause. Mr. Schade is doing a great job.

I think Mini-Thon is one of the most meaningful and beneficial clubs at CHS. The fact that this money the students raise is going to pediatric cancer is awesome. Mini-Thon is a great way to give back to the community and feel good about yourself. I am going to come to Mini-Thon this year!

I think that Mini-thon is the best way our school can help those in need. Most people don’t enjoy just handing out money, but this is a way to get kids active and excited to both earn money for kids who really need help, and also allowing them to have a fun time. I look forward to getting to go to Thon this year because last year I was unable to make it.

I think that having a pep rally was a great way to alert the school about this upcoming event. I was a part of Mini-Thon last year, and it was such a great experience. It gets really funny towards the end because everyone is so tired, but everyone pushes through. Like Kristen said, I think it’s smart to have winter spirit week be the lead-up to Mini-Thon, because this will help students get more excited for it. I can’t wait to participate in Mini-Thon this year and am so happy that CHS has decided to take part too!

Thanks Bry!! It was a lot of work to get Mini-Thon started at Carlisle but the hard work has paid off! It is a good feeling to see your classmates get excited for such an amazing event. You get to have so much fun for 12 hours and it is for a good cause. Having it with winterball and winterfest week will get everyone more excited and motivated for the Mini-Thon

I also think the pep rally to get everything started is a really great idea! Like Cassie said, raising awareness for mini thon at the pep rally will be very beneficial because the whole school will be listening. It’s also cool how spirit week is leading up to mini thon instead of winter ball. I think that just shows that our school finds it very important to help others.

I think that the mini-thon is fun as well as charitable! What beats having fun and helping other people at the same time?

I was on the Mini-Thon committee last year, and it felt awesome to make a difference. I wasn’t able to take the club this year, but I really feel proud that CHS offers this to the students to be apart of. Justine is awesome for getting it started!

I think that having a pep rally to get students excited for winter ball, winter fest week, and mini thon is a great idea! I think that informing students at the pep rally will help gain more support and more people will go to mini thon this year.
