Student Council preps for Winter Ball and Winter Week
Temperatures are low and the heels are high. That can only mean one thing: Winter Ball is just around the corner.
On January 31, CHS will have its annual Winter Ball at Whispering Pines on McClure’s Gap Road, the same venue as last year. The dance begins at 7 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m.
The dance is semi-formal. Matt Fahnestock, a student council advisor, explained guys “should wear a dress shirt and tie and girls usually wear longer dresses than they do to homecoming.”
This year, Winter Ball will happen before Winter Week. Instead, activities after the dance will build up to Mini-THON.
Some of the events planned for Winter Week include a Wingin It! Show, a Battle of the Bands, and a Lip-Sync competition. Want to see the lip-sync performance of “Bear Force One” from last year’s Renaissance? Check out our video here.
Additionally, the theme days for Winter Week are as followed:
Monday – Crazy Socks & Ugly Sweaters
Tuesday – Role Reversal Day
Wednesday – Plaid Day
Thursday – Beach Day
Friday – Flashback Friday
Of course, none of this would be possible without the hard work of Student Council.
According to Fahnestock, Student Council has “had multiple decorating planning sessions.”
Also, sophomore Student Council member Gabrielle Conde said they “divide into committees and assign two people to ‘co-chair’ and oversee all preparations.”
Winter Ball usually draws in hundreds of students and for good reasons.
Junior Brandon Peck enjoys attending Winter Ball “to have fun with friends and have a good time.”

Having a winter week this year was fun! What was too bad was the decision to combine the pep rally for the CV/Carlisle game with the announcement of mini-thon. There is nothing to bring down a crowd of pepped students like pediatric cancer. Having a separate assembly last year worked better to explain and promote mini-thon, though I understand that it can be hard to organize and execute such large assemblies.

I like the idea of having winter ball before winter week. I feel like it will kick things off better, especially leading up to mini thon. I like the way things planned out this year!
