Community rallies together to support one of their own
On October 25, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., community members will gather at the South Middleton Park pavilion for the TLC for Tracy 5K walk.
The event, located at 534 Park Drive, Boiling Springs, is a fundraising effort to show support and raise money for Tracy Parry’s fight against Primary Peritoneal Cancer (PPC).
All proceeds will benefit Parry, a Carlisle High School aide. Excess donations will go towards the Primary Peritoneal Cancer Foundation.
Participants can register at here (must be registered by Oct 19) and receive a t-shirt with their registration.
The Primary Peritoneal Cancer Foundation describes PPC as “an aggressive cancer with few warning signs.”
However, Sara Mattrick, an organizer of the event, hopes that with “a whole community fighting right along her…one day she can forget the ‘c’ word and remember the ‘l’ word. LOVE.”
Aside from walking, jogging, or running a 5K course around South Middleton Park, those in attendance “can enjoy music, refreshments, baked goods and raffle prizes.”
The 5K walk will occur rain or shine. If severe weather does prevent the event, then it will be held indoors. If this were to happen, check the aforementioned website or the group’s Facebook page for information.
Those interested in helping Parry but are unable to participate in the walk can donate at the TLC for Tracy GoFundMe account.
The main hopes of TLC for Tracy, as said by Mattrick, are “to support Tracy and her family financially” and “to support Tracy emotionally.”

I’m so glad that such an event would be able to occur, especially for a woman who deserves all the love and support she can receive. She is such a bright light in our community and was such a great person to see around school. I hope that it was a very successful event!

I love Sara Mattrick’s quote and know that the community will rally around Ms. Parry and give her a day surrounded by love. Cancer is a terrible disease and reaches far beyond, hurting so many.

I think its great to see the community getting together to help one cause. Considering that some of my family members have or have had cancer , its good to see that people are trying to raise money to help the ones who are suffering.

Wow, what a beautiful contribution that the community has made to try to help Ms. Tracy with her fight! I have known her for YEARS, she is such a kind and selfless soul who would do anything for the ones around her. I am glad that others are now returning the favor back onto her. I am so happy to see that light was shed on this awesome cause. 🙂

As someone who has known Ms. Perry for years, I’m touched to see the community supporting her. I know her son, as well as the girl she provided aide to. Tracy’s willingness to help others and be such a strong support is reflected in the movement to raise awareness and funds for Tracy’s fight.
