Music Department to host several events
Check out these upcoming events in the CHS Music Department.
Choir:
Chamber Choir, the Bel Canto Singers and Concert Choir will be hosting a Fall Concert at 7:00 pm on Thursday, November 17 in the Barr Auditorium. Music choices will consist of different difficult pieces, both culturally and rhythmically. The choirs have been working on these pieces since the beginning of the year.
“Everything will run smoothly and we will be prepared; Mr. Schade has prepared us well enough,” senior Chamber Choir singer Chrissy Hoss said.
In other news, County Chorus tryouts were held on Friday, Oct 22 with people from all over the district. Members of the Chamber Singers choir will also be in the County Chorus. CHS will be hosting a festival on November 22 in the Barr Auditorium at 7:00 pm.
Band:
The informal band banquet will be on November 14. The band has been practicing as a whole and have been learning pieces since the beginning of the year.
“It’s a good band that is going on and better than bands I’ve been in so I’m not worried [about the performance…]. It’s going to be fun,” junior band member William Kirby, who plays the alto saxophone, said.
The band will be performing a variety of pieces from different countries, one in particular according to Kirby, “Solas Ane,” is a Gaelic song that he finds very special and “beautiful.”
Orchestra:
The Orchestra Festival will be on November 17-November 19 at West Shore. Only a select group will be attending this and they will be learning pieces for it there. Junior Amelia Junga, who plays the viola and several other instruments, will be going to the festival to represent CHS.
CHS will hold an orchestra concert on Tuesday, November 15, featuring all groups with a combined piece at the end where everyone will be playing together. They have been preparing since September. The pieces have been chosen by site reading and then being voted on and then practiced with each individual section.
Musical:
Work is already underway on this year’s musical, Cinderella. Tryouts were held on Nov 2 and 3. The first rehearsal for the musical will on December 12, with the actual performances in March.
“I have seen this musical before and I love it,” said junior Jamie Hafner. “It is a modern twist on an old favorite and it has singing and dancing, fun for the whole family.
“It isn’t like the Disney [version],” added Hafner. “It is actually the Broadway version.”
The audition process is slightly different this year. Unlike past years, those students auditioning know what the musical is and are trying out for specific roles. In past years, the musical was unknown to those auditioning and they were to sing whatever music was provided for them.
