What You Need to Know: Tortuous Trump Transition
What you need to know: Trump Transition
The Republicans are coming! Not only has a Republican been elected into office, Donald J. Trump, but many of those elected into the House of Representatives are also Republicans. Trump’s transition into the presidency has since forth been a rocky one. President Obama was said to have been trying to aid and make the transition as smooth as possible but it appears it may be a little longer than past elects.
While the transition itself may be taking a bit longer, Trump has made some shocking (and quick) decisions for his cabinet. So far Trump has selected Steve Bannon, a member of the Alt-right movement and former Executive Chair for the Breitbart news, as the Chief Strategist.
- Reince Priebus as the White House Chief of Staff
- Mike Pompeo as the CIA Director
- Jeff Sessions as the Attorney General
- Michael T. Flynn as the National Secretary Adviser
- James M. Mattis as the Defense Secretary
- Steven Munchin as the Treasury Secretary
- Elaine L. Chao as the Transportation Secretary
- Tom Price as the Health and Humans Secretary
- Wilbur Ross as the Commerce Secretary
- Betsy DeVos as the Education Secretary
- Nikki R. Haley as the U.N. Ambassador
The rest of the cabinet has yet to be revealed including the Secretary of State, which may be Mitt Romney based on recent discussions.
In regards to his plans for his presidency, Trump is said to still believe in many of the things he said on his campaign tour. However, the wall he wants to build around the Mexican border (which would be paid for by Mexico), he has been changing what he has said in reference to it being built by saying that it will be more of a fence even though there already is a fence.
A big part of his presidency may be changing and reshaping American trade policy and renegotiating or withdrawing from the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) which is an agreement signed with Canada and Mexico on trade between the countries.
