Selecting courses for a brighter future
Once again another year has come and almost gone, and once again the students at CHS must select their courses for the coming school year to ensure they are prepared for their future.
Course selection forms were distributed in homeroom on Jan 23 and they must be completed and submitted into your English class teacher by/on Feb 1. Students will need to get their course papers signed by teachers before turning it in completed.
“I believe that it’s a good idea,” said Mark Alwine, math teacher, when asked what he thought of students getting their courses signed off by teachers. “The teachers are the best ones that know how a student performs in class and know the next classes that are coming up.”
To prepare for the coming year, students can obtain a pass from their content area teacher or grade principal to attend an AP, Honors, or Certified program meeting on January 27 (including electives like Periscope and Oracle). This will help to ensure the Carlisle students are made known of what is to come if a student decides to select that course for the next year.
“I’m looking forward to [course selection] because I know senior year is the adventurous year and picking out my classes for it is exciting,” said Alaina Matthews, junior.
Not only are students excited for the new school year but teachers are as well.
“I’m always excited for a fresh set of faces,” Alwine said. “I think I’ve gotten things nailed down for things I like to teach (after 7 years of teaching). I always change a couple things but that’ll happen when I get there.”
Want to help the Herd? Please consider supporting the Periscope program. Your donation will support the student journalists of CHS and allow us to purchase equipment, send students to workshops/camps, and cover our annual website hosting costs.

Course selection is such a stressful time! As I was reading I was thinking, “thank goodness I did not have to do that this year,” but now that I think about it, picking classes for college is probably gonna be very stressful as well. Great article.
