Is Lunch 2 Too Crowded? (Editorial)
Anyone with eyes can see that Lunch 2 is packed with more students than the rest. Administration knows and yet nothing has been done to solve the problem.
Lunch 1 has 415 students, and lunch 3 only has 314. Lunch 2, however, has 752 students assigned to it, over double the other lunches combined. 752 hungry students in only 2 lunch rooms. It’s a miracle anyone can find space to walk with all those students moving through the overcrowded room at once.
The bell that releases students to lunch 2 sounds at 11:33, and students are dismissed at 12:02. That leaves twenty nine minutes for all those students to cram themselves into the lunch rooms and attempt to get through the lunch lines as quickly as possible.
The situation only gets worse as all those students get released at the same time. Everyone tries to leave the room at once. This coincides with students that have 1st lunch moving to 5th period, therefore approximately 1167 students all trying to move through the same hallway, going in conflicting directions.
When asked, administration will not comment to what created this situation.
So we must ask administration: Was there no other way to schedule students into other lunch periods? Can anything be done now to alleviate this frustrating situation?

Lunch 2 is so crowded that I don’t even eat lunch in the cafeteria this year! And I didn’t last year because there was no where to sit! When I pass the lunch room during lunch 3 it seems like there are barely any people there. I’m sure there’s something the administrative office can do about distributing lunches more evenly amongst the students.

Personally, I think that lunch too is way too crowded. Me, being in lunch 2 in McGowan absolutely insane! I never realized that there were that many people assigned to that lunch! There is barely enough room to sit indoors actually. Eventually when it gets too cold, I’ll probably start going to the library instead of eating outside like I normally do.

I had NO idea just how large Lunch 2 was until I saw these numbers, I was incredibly impressed at how Kenny went above and beyond and got them. I as well am curious on why it is that there is a lunch that is always SO much more crowded. Last year (my junior year) Lunch 3 was so incredibly crowded that I ended up going to a study hall instead of lunch.

Lunch two is incredibly crowded! The cacophony of students shoveled into that lunch room make it hard to hear what anyone sitting next to you is saying. It is always entertaining to look around the lunch room during second lunch and watch the many faces of students crunch into confusion as they ask their friends to repeat what they said because of the noise. Hopefully next year this problem can be avoided.

I would be curious to find out why lunch 2 ended up being so much larger than all the other lunch periods. As it is lunches are short, pressing people for time to stand in line, buy lunch and then eat it. Its actually quite amazing that the cafeterias can feed so many people!

I agree! It is amazing how efficient the lines are!
