Letter from the Editor: End of the Year
Dear Reader,
Thank you, the readers, for supporting CHS Periscope this year! Without you, we wouldn’t have a reason to publish articles weekly on our website. Through contests, comments, and social media, your interactions have helped shaped the style and direction of Periscope and I can’t thank you enough for your support.
The end of the school year is finally here and it has been a crazy one. Although this is my second year on the Periscope staff, this is only my first year as the Editor-in-Chief. At the beginning of the year I was a little nervous to take on such an important role with a staff of fairly new reporters. However, throughout the year the staff showed me multiple times how talented and supportive they are. For the first two years of my high school career, I saw my classes as just classes that I had to attend to get through the year, but then this year during Periscope, I actually felt like I had a purpose to go to the class. I felt like I was a part of a group that was making a difference in the school. I felt like we were actually documenting and reporting on events that were important to the student body.
This year in Periscope I believe that every writer on the staff has found themselves as a writer while successfully communicating the latest news to the student body. We had many new staff members in sections covering sports, arts, music, news, and more. With new staff members comes new opinions, which definitely benefited our Perspectives section. I’m sure the members of this year’s staff will go on to do great things.
Periscope has covered a variety of topics this year with some of the top stories being “CHS’s Mock Crash puts a spin on safe driving education,” “Holidays at CHS (Video),” “Moving on to other fields: students sign with colleges” and “Carlisle High School 2015 Homecoming (Photos).” If you haven’t read these articles, check them out on our website!
I’m extremely proud of the magazines that Periscope has published this year. Personally, I think the magazines got better as the year went on. The design, content, and quality of the stories got better as the year went on and I couldn’t be happier with our last magazine of the 2015-16 year (getting delivered to seniors on Friday and underclassmen on Monday!)
Periscope has had a growing presence online too. Our various social media pages have grown this year. We’ve “live-tweeted” many events including the Oscars and the CHS Quidditch match. Our Instagram has grown and every time a story is published, a corresponding picture and link is posted on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
I couldn’t be happier with how this year has gone. I can’t wait to see what next year has in store for Periscope. Check out our website over the summer for a few updates on activities going on over the summer and look for graduation coverage on our social media pages in the upcoming weeks.
Sincerely,
Rowan Young
Editor-in-Chief
