Many teens who are trying to keep fit seek out a gym to go to and get a workout in everyday. In Carlisle, there are many gyms that all have certain features that could appeal to you.
Most students at CHS frequent Planet Fitness, Gold’s Gym, and the local YMCA to work out. Each gym has many unique options to choose from to help influence their customers.
Junior Heidi Kelso said she likes to go to Planet Fitness to work out. “I like going there because of the privacy that you receive. People are very respectful and stick to themselves,” said Kelso.
CHS alumni Mason Morrow attends Gold’s Gym on a weekly basis. He said, “Gold’s is really a gym for anyone of any age. They have everything for teens and young adults and senior citizens. Overalls Gold’s is a gym for everyone.”
Planet Fitness, located on 1186 Walnut Bottom Road (next to Kmart), offers a very low membership price of just $10 a month, which will get you unlimited access to all the fitness equipment and a t-shirt. Planet Fitness is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, giving customers an open gym whenever they seek one.
In addition to access to all gym equipment, a membership to Gold’s Gym, located on 1225 Ritner Highway, offers unlimited fitness classes, including Zumba, for just $20 a month. The gym is open everyday Monday through Friday, 4:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Carlisle Family YMCA, located on 311 South West Street is a fitness center open to people of all ages. Teen membership (ages 13-18) is $25 a month and includes use of the Adult Fitness Center, racquetball courts, indoor pool, and fitness classes. The YMCA is open Monday through Friday 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Saturday 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
There are many features that the gyms in Carlisle have to offer, and many students frequent these gyms to help them stay active and stay in shape.

I have a YMCA membership but the concept behind Planet Fitness’s low rate is very interesting. I think they are able to charge only $10/month because they can theoretically overpopulate their gym knowing that about half of the people who buy memberships will only use them for the first two weeks-one month of the year. I don’t know how I feel about everyone keeping to themselves at Planet Fitness, however, because often times I like the social aspect of working out at the YMCA.

I workout at home, but sometimes I wish I had a gym membership because lifting with other people is a lot more fun than lifting by yourself.
