Can the momentum of the fall sports carry over to the winter season?
The recent fall sports season was a success for some teams, while other teams were rebuilding.
The football team went 5-5 and made the playoffs for the first time since 2005. The boys soccer team had a bit of a struggle, going 6-12. The girls soccer team also struggled, going 7-10-1. The boy’s volleyball team also struggled going 7-10. The girl’s volleyball team found success going 13-7 and making a 2 game playoff run. The girl’s field hockey team seemed to never find their footing going 3-15. The boy’s and girl’s cross country teams each had a great season with the boys going to states and the girls winning their first Division 3 title since 1998.
Last year, the boys basketball team had an outstanding season. They went 18-9 and made a decent run into the playoffs. Even though they lost decent players like Jordan Dockens and Timmy Atkinson, the boys have many very good returning players. Keep an eye out for players like Jake Milligan, Deshawn Millington, Zion Patterson, Deonte Ramsey, and Mike Wuestner. The boys tipped off with a tournament at Gene Evans Gymnasium on December 5 and December 6. The regular season starts with a home game on Tuesday, December 9, against Central Dauphin East. Junior Varsity tips off at 6 pm while Varsity follows at 7:30 pm.
Last year the girls basketball team never seemed to find their rhythm, ending the season 1-21. The girls lost some good players last year, but have many returning seniors like Marissa Steck, Justine Douglas, Andee Orsini, and Bryanna Youtzy. They have some good returning underclassman like Cierra Smetana and Glenna Sorrell. The girls start the season at a tournament in Spring Grove, and have their first home game on Thursday December 11 against Cumberland Valley. Junior varsity starts at 6 pm and varsity tips off at 7:30 pm
The Boys Swimming and Diving Squad had a decent 2013-2014 season, going 7-7. The boys lost some decent players last year, but have key returners like Connor O’Hagen, and Jackson Hoch. The season starts against Harrisburg Academy on December 9 at Cumberland Valley High School. The first home meet is against Big Spring on December 11 at 7:00 pm.
The Girls Swimming and Diving squad also had a decent season, going 7-7. The girls have lost some good swimmers, but are returning some decent swimmers like Tara Hetherington and Kathleen McGovern. The season starts on December 9against Harrisburg Academy at Cumberland Valley High School. Their first home meet is December 11 2014 at 7:00 pm.
The wrestling squad also had a decent season, going 8-6 last year. The wrestling squad lost some great wrestlers last year like Ian Shannon and Hasan Alic. They have many great returners like Grant Shughart, Brady Meals, and Ali Bayat. The wrestling team’s first match at home is December 11 against Harrisburg at 7:00 pm.

Carlisle sports are making a comeback. Coming into high school as a freshman you’d never really hear of our sports teams. CV was always the talk of the town, and I remember specifically after beating CV in a lacrosse game a CV student saying “Don’t you guys lose in other sports all the time?” We have outstanding teams, outstanding athletes, and an outstanding student section, not to forget the fans. The momentum of fall sports does carry into winter sports. If we keep winning, the momentum will also carry over into the spring. We are one big family, and everyone at Carlisle is a champion.

It’s no doubt that all of our sport programs are supported, but this year we’ve taken it to a whole other level with the Crazies and many other supporters. They’ve taken it to themselves to not simply sit on the side and watch, but cheer they’re hearts out and really give the athletes that boost they need. Hopefully we’ll see this enthusiasm pass over to the spring sports too.

The winter sports teams has proved a lot so far this season. I think the boys basketball team will hopefully go far in the playoffs. The girls basketball team has improved a lot this season even though our record does not show it. We closed the gap with many difficult opponents. We have chances to win in the next couple weeks.

The amount of talent that we have here at CHS is incredible. No matter who you are there is a sport that you can participate in. I think that when athletes have a successful fall season they will feel more confident come the winter and spring sports.

I think that Carlisle’s interest and support in our sports team is phenomenal. Not only do we have great teams with good winning records we have a great student spirit which backs up every game and meet. As an athlete I can personally say that the support of the school is definitely a huge factor in wanting to be on a sports team. Though not many people come to cross country meets I know that the schools supports me! It is a great thing to say that I am apart of a school with so much support as Carlisle! WOOOOOO

It’s great to see Carlisle sports making an impact again on so many levels. Because of this success, Carlisle is back on the map and a force to be reckoned with in many athletic events.
