Boys and girls lacrosse teams anticipate promising seasons
March 20, 2015
Carlisle’s boys and girls lacrosse teams will start their seasons this weekend.
Last year the girls ended their season 9-7 and made their first appearance at the district playoffs. They faced Exeter Township in the first round and lost. This year, they anticipate going further in the playoffs.
“We have a very ambitious team this year and have hope for an extremely successful season,” said coach Ally Brehm.
They have several returning players this season after losing only six seniors last year. They have spent their offseason weight lifting, working on stick skills, running, learning new plays, and participating in a winter league
Senior midfielder Rene Morrow said, “We have to focus during practices and we hold each other accountable for goals we set in the begging of the season.”
Brehm and the team have very specific goals for this season that they hope to accomplish: “Competing to win a first ever Mid-Penn Championship and getting a banner up in the gym for girls lacrosse,” she said. “Placing a higher seed for districts (we were the number 16 see last year) and to qualify for states.”
The girls play their first game on Saturday against Spring Grove.
The boy’s lacrosse team finished 18-4 last year and was the District Title Champions after beating undefeated Wilson.
There are many spots to fill this year on the offensive side due to a loss of many seniors last year.
“Most of our seasons from last year were offensive players so rebuilding the offense to that level it attained last year is going to take time,” said Steve Kidder. “However, the offense players that didn’t graduate are familiar with the system we run and have be running it fairly well.”
The team practiced their fundamentals two days a week during their offseason to prepare for this season. They also played in weekend games.
Senior Drew Amsley is looking forward to play rival Hershey in May.
“They are a challenge every year and this is not exception. To prepare we will change our offence to exploit their weaknesses. Our defense will shut down their attack men,” he said.
The team goals are the same as they have been. Kidder said, “Win the Mid-Penn conference, win the district III championship, and compete in the State Tournament.”
Their season starts on Friday at Penn Manor. The first home game will be on Tuesday against Lower Dauphin.
Several players from the girls and boys lacrosse teams signed in the winter to play at the college level. Drew Amsley- Widener University, Mackenzie Moran- Baldwin Wallace University, Megan Quattrone- McDaniel College, Morgan Reifsteck- Messiah College. Rene Morrow will sign in the spring to Millersville University.

After reading this article at the end of our regular season, I would like to thank all those who have supported us throughout the season. The support from the fans the past four years here at Carlisle has been phenomenal. It was hard to accept the fact that this year was my last year ever wearing the #8 Carlisle uniform. I still can’t believe I have already played my last game at our band field and the stadium, and I will miss the bus rides to and from all of the away games. Finishing off the regular season 10-5 was not the ideal record we were going for in spite of many 1 goal games, and tough losses but it is nothing to hang our heads on. Next week we are playing in the first round for the District Championship! So its like we are 0-0 all over again. Come out and support!

I think its interesting to see how a team adapts after the seniors leave. Some teams get hit pretty hard while others maybe lose one senior. I know that the girls lacrosse team has 10 seniors so next year they’ll have to adapt again. I believe both teams will finish out this season with a lot of success and I believe it will keep getting better as the years progress.

I believe that even with the loss of the seniors on the boys lacrosse team they will continue to be successful in their 2015 season. They’re going to have to work even harder and there are a lot of spots that need to be filled offensively but I think there are people who will step up and fill them. I think that the girls team is going to do even better than last year. Best of luck to both of them!

I agree with this article. We will be facing some problems trying to fill in on offense, but with some hard practice we should be able to step it up.

Lacrosse is an extremely fun sport to watch, and I’m so happy that both the boys and girls teams are determined to make another successful season. The teams act as a family too, which promises hard work and more wins. Good luck to both teams!

Again, I am so excited to see the continued success of Carlisle Sports and it is great that the Boy’s Lacrosse Team has set a standard of excellence. I wish them the best of luck and I hope they can repeat last year’s success.

I bet that Carlisle boys and girls lacrosse will only continue their success this year even with the loss of seniors. Let’s hope for district titles for both boys and girls lacrosse. That would be unprecedented!
