Carlisle’s boys and girls lacrosse teams will start their seasons this weekend.

Last year the girls ended their season 9-7 and made their first appearance at the district playoffs. They faced Exeter Township in the first round and lost. This year, they anticipate going further in the playoffs.

“We have a very ambitious team this year and have hope for an extremely successful season,” said coach Ally Brehm.

They have several returning players this season after losing only six seniors last year. They have spent their offseason weight lifting, working on stick skills, running, learning new plays, and participating in a winter league

Senior midfielder Rene Morrow said, “We have to focus during practices and we hold each other accountable for goals we set in the begging of the season.”

Brehm and the team have very specific goals for this season that they hope to accomplish: “Competing to win a first ever Mid-Penn Championship and getting a banner up in the gym for girls lacrosse,” she said. “Placing a higher seed for districts (we were the number 16 see last year) and to qualify for states.”

The girls play their first game on Saturday against Spring Grove.

The boy’s lacrosse team finished 18-4 last year and was the District Title Champions after beating undefeated Wilson.

There are many spots to fill this year on the offensive side due to a loss of many seniors last year.

“Most of our seasons from last year were offensive players so rebuilding the offense to that level it attained last year is going to take time,” said Steve Kidder. “However, the offense players that didn’t graduate are familiar with the system we run and have be running it fairly well.”

The team practiced their fundamentals two days a week during their offseason to prepare for this season. They also played in weekend games.

Senior Drew Amsley is looking forward to play rival Hershey in May.

“They are a challenge every year and this is not exception. To prepare we will change our offence to exploit their weaknesses. Our defense will shut down their attack men,” he said.

The team goals are the same as they have been. Kidder said, “Win the Mid-Penn conference, win the district III championship, and compete in the State Tournament.”

Their season starts on Friday at Penn Manor. The first home game will be on Tuesday against Lower Dauphin.

Several players from the girls and boys lacrosse teams signed in the winter to play at the college level. Drew Amsley- Widener University, Mackenzie Moran- Baldwin Wallace University, Megan Quattrone- McDaniel College, Morgan Reifsteck- Messiah College. Rene Morrow will sign in the spring to Millersville University.
