Empty Net: Carlisle Ice Hockey Team Discontinues

Lack of players and funding cited as reasons behind team ending.

The Ice Hockey team winning the state championship last year.

Last year the Carlisle boys ice hockey team had a surprising winning streak capped with a championship title.

Which is why it was a shock to many CHS students that the team has been discontinued this year.

“Due to lack of booster budget and number of players, there will not be a team this year,” said by CASD athletic director George Null.

Students who were part of the hockey team was shocked and disappointed to hear they will not be playing for their team this year including former player, Tyler Rexroth, who explained, “It sucks that we don’t have a team this year. It would’ve been awesome to play hockey my senior year”

But funding wasn’t the only problem the team faced apparently.

“The coach stepped down for personal reasons and we lost our team management such as the president and treasurer,” Rexroth added.

Even though the ice hockey team won’t be playing this year at least they made CHS proud by ending last year’s season with a bang by winning the championship.
