Athlete of the Month: Najae Nickerson
More stories from Meg Tate
Senior Najae Nickerson is one of the elite performers on the Carlisle High School Girls Track and Field team. She has been long established as one of the best sprint, hurdlers, and jumpers at CHS for the past three years. Now going into her fourth and final season in Carlisle colors, we got the chance to catch up with her to discuss the season.
Q1: How long have you been running for?
A1: I have been running track for four years now.
Q2: What are your leadership roles on the team?
A2: I am more experienced than other runners on the team only because I have been running on the team for a longer amount of time. So my role as a leader/captain is to help my teammates grow on and off the track, and be there to help motivate them, as well as myself.
Q3: What is it like for this being your final year at Carlisle?
A3: It is surreal to think this will be my last year running on Carlisle’s track team. I have grown so much over the past couple of years, so I am excited for what is in store for the upcoming season.
Q4: Do you have any specific goals for the season?
A4: A team goal of mine is for the Carlisle girl’s team to become district champions, and I believe this is our year. I also would like to get my 4×400 relay to nationals because I think we all deserve it due to all the hard work, time and effort we put into that event. A personal goal for me would be to break the hurdle records to leave my legacy at CHS.
Q5: Do you have any plans for your future in track?
A5: My plan is to run track and field the next four years at the collegiate level.
