The boys basketball teams prepares for their 2017-2018 season with winter workouts. The team has a lot of new players that have been working hard to find success on the court this year.

Even though there are designated seasons for all the sports at the school for when they compete, that doesn’t mean that the work ends there.  Sports teams at Carlisle High School, like boys basketball, have off-season training.  This fall, the boys have been using this time to prepare for the upcoming season and improve their skills.

The Carlisle High School boys basketball team had a successful season last year.  Their record was 19-9 last season, making it to state-level post-season play.

The boys basketball team has been training all fall for this upcoming season.  Not only are they able to train for the upcoming season, but also the new players are introduced to the Carlisle High School basketball team which they will be playing for during their years of high school. Several of the players have great things to say about how well their team has prepared for the season.

Trevor Hamilton said, “A lot of the guys on the team have been here training since this summer.  We set out to make a run this year and I think that the team has the chemistry and skill to do that.”

“To prepare for this season, we have been playing a lot of our younger guys and building everything together,” said senior forward, Nikhi Barnes. “We have strengthened our skills on the court and our relationships with each other off of the court”.

Senior point guard Eveyon Davis said, “We have had open gyms every Monday and Wednesday where all we do is basketball drills and play games.  We have also have been to fall basketball tournaments to get us ready for this season.”

Every pre-season training is different for the team.  As new players come in, and the senior players leaving, every year is an adjustment for the basketball team.  They have to figure out their strengths and weaknesses for the year, and then spend the preseason and regular season working on these things.

Barnes said, “This year’s training is different from others because we have worked a lot harder this year.  There are more spots to fill to be a strong team, but I believe that we will be successful this season.”

Davis believes that the team will have a successful season this year.

“The team will be successful this season and there is a lot of talent.  As long as we keep working hard, we will have a great season,” said Davis.

The team has been working on improving their skills during the fall off-season every Monday and Wednesday.  They started the season with a few scrimmages, but will officially begin the season on Dec 8, with the annual Carlisle Classic, where the boys will play South Western at 7:30pm in the Gene Evans gym.
