March Athlete of the Month: Sam Candland

March’s athlete of the month is Sam Candland.   Candland is a senior varsity volleyball player who looks to be a key contributor and leader this year.  He was a first team all-conference player last year and looks to repeat the feat this year. Candland will be attending Southern Virginia University to play volleyball next year.  

Q1: How long have you been playing volleyball?

A1: This will be my 4th year playing volleyball.

Q2: What was your favorite moment from last year?

A2: My favorite moment from last year was beating Chambersburg in front of our home crowd.

Q3: What are you most looking forward to for next year?

A3:  I’m really looking forward to playing with the rest of the seniors for one last year.

Q4: What position do you play?

A4: My position is opposite hitter.

Q5: What excites you the most about being a collegiate volleyball player?

A5:  I’m really excited to play with my older brothers who are going to be on the same team as me.  I’ve always loved playing with them.

Q6:  What is your favorite volleyball moment?

A6:  My favorite volleyball moment is when I made First-Team All-Conference as a junior.

Q7: What aspect of your game have you improved the most over your 4 years?

A7:  I have improved a lot over these last four years, but what sticks out to me is my swing.  I have vastly improved the control and power over my four years and will try to continue to do so in college.
