Springing Into Summer: Spring Sports Recap
As the air gets warmer and the days get longer, the spring sports season has come to a close for Carlisle High School this year. With many notable accomplishments made by the teams, the spring season can considered a great success.
The varsity girls lacrosse team finished their season with a record of 6-9-1. This season they focused on the fundamentals and bringing the energy onto the field. As for the JV team, they finished their season undefeated with a record of 13-0.
Junior Allie Negley explained: “Every lacrosse season is a special experience! I love being on the field and working together. Our team improved our skills a lot from the beginning of the season and our JV team killed it with an undefeated record.”
This baseball season, the baseball team finished with a record of 8-11-1. They achieved their goal of bettering their record from last season and had many close games. Junior pitcher Spencer Griffie, recalls, “This season has had its ups and downs, but has taught us lots of lessons. Not only in baseball, but as young men becoming adults as well.” Coach Kelley had hoped to implement the importance of dedication to the team rather than the individual, and this is proof of his impact.
CHS softball is currently engaged in the second round of District playoffs. They had an outstanding record this season, finishing 13-6-1. Freshman Summer Kunza catches for the varsity team and is a big bat. When asked to recap the season, Kunza refers to it as “spectacular.” She comments, “The players’ bats have been on fire all season, and defense on the field has prevented many earned runs from opposing teams.” The coaching staff is very proud of the girls and the program is excited to compete at the next level. They had their first playoff game May 20th and prevailed against Northeastern in a 12-6 win. They play again Thursday, May 23rd against Chambersburg.
Carlisle boys’ tennis team had a “really solid season” this year according to senior Cohan Bailey. He also mentions that, “we had a lot of fun and I’m excited for what the team will look like next year.” The team spent countless hours practicing on the court through all weather, and it paid off. They finished with a winning record of 8-6. Bailey shouts out their coach, Coach Pham, contributing to their successful season.
The boys varsity volleyball team had a season to remember. For the first time ever, they are Mid-Penn champions. Their record was phenomenal, with the team only suffering three losses, in comparison to their 13 wins. They run their sets smoothly and work together well. Senior hitter, Wyatt Colestock, says that “We’ve grown a lot this year and have overcome a lot of adversity and can’t wait to see how our season ends.” The boys are state ranked, and have the potential to make it to states. In their first playoff game they swept Penn Manor 3-0. Now they are locked in on their upcoming district game that is being held at Gene Evans Gymnasium against Hempfield on May 23rd at 7pm.
Despite the road not being over yet, the boys track team has had a season of success with a record of 5-1, and the girls have been working towards it with a record of 2-4. Sophomore Michael Hakim shares his personal experience with this season: “This track season has been one to remember. We all have grown individually and as a team. We all push each other in practice and on meet days to be the best versions of ourselves.” He shares his favorite part of the season being receiving the nickname, ‘Meet-Day-Mikey’ and jumping 42 feet in the triple jump. Hakim, and all those who qualified, are very excited for the postseason.
Despite their record of 3-13, the boys lacrosse team spent their time putting in the work and building on teamwork. Sophomore Brayden Stewarts shares his experience, “This season was marked by significant growth and strong teamwork. We faced challenges head-on and improved our team skills, leading to several wins. We also built a stronger sense of teamwork and resilience, laying a solid foundation for future success. This year helped us grow and learn together as a team. This season also demonstrated our team’s development and unity that will help us grow in the future.”
Carlisle’s spring sports teams dominated the 2024 season. Many teams advanced beyond the regular season, and a handful of teams are still continuing their journeys. As warmer days are around the corner, and the last days of school are quickly approaching, CASD athletics comes to an end.
