Homecoming: Simple ways to save on your style
September 27, 2013
With the Homecoming dance just around the corner, CHS females may struggle to dig up dresses that fit their style and budget. With a ton of stores spread throughout and around Carlisle, finding the perfect dress takes a bit of searching.
Amanda Padilla, a sophomore said “I usually shop for my formal dresses at Macy’s.”
Although stores such as Macy’s offer a great selection, prices may get in the way. Stores such as TJ Maxx, Debbs and Boscov’s offer great deals year round that can fit every budget. At Ross a multitude of racks covered in dresses that range from $10.99 to $29.99 can help anyone find a dress without breaking the bank.
While price matters, so do style and color. Finding a dress that accentuates the body and catches eyes in a positive way is important when going to a dance.
“Warm, rich colors like burgundy and dark blue are really in right now,” Megan Habeck, a senior said.
Saving money on dresses this season means extra cash to spend on accessories. Stores like Ross, Forever21, and Charlotte Russe offer great deals on jewelry and shoes. Studs, sparkles and animal print are popular among shoe styles this past year and can add flair to any dress.
Junior, Olivia Patterson says when looking for shoes, “I look for height.”
Adding a cute pair of heels can give any girl that super model height and help them complete their outfit. As for jewelry, simple is the best way to go. When wearing a flashy dress, don’t overdo the look by over accessorizing, that way the overall outfit is more sophisticated.
Finding the perfect style and fit is a trial and error process. When it comes to uncovering homecoming dresses, don’t be afraid to take risks. The dress that you thought would never look flattering might actually be the perfect choice.

I think it is insane how fashion has changed over the past few years. The dresses recommended in 2013 are completely different from the dresses that would be recommended now.

I always love a good fashion article. Even though homecoming is long gone, I think these dresses shown above are incredibly cute and I would definitely wear them. Sometimes it’s hard to find a dress that is unique and fits your own personal styles, but is also in your budget. It’s good to know about different stores that offer quality dresses for a decent price because I often get my dresses at Macy’s and even though they have a wide selection, the costs can get pretty pricey. So it’s nice to know about some of the other alternatives.

I honestly think this is a good point because mostly parents are the ones buying the dress or maybe even grandma. Point being, its usually not the special homecoming queen paying for her own dress. Plus with the dance being so close to November, December is so close meaning Christmas. Id rather get more Christmas gifts than an expensive dress Im only gonna wear once. Am i right or am i right?

I personally feel like girls should be able to wear yoga pants a northface hoodie and uggs to homecoming. 😉

I went shopping last weekend and I couldn’t find anything. Every store I went to already sold out of a lot of dresses. Macy’s didn’t have a very good selection. I think that going to Ross could be a good idea because not only would there be more choices, the prices would be a lot more affordable. I definitely agree that wearing simple jewelry is a must. Too much flashy jewelry can take away from the dress itself.

Personally, I prefer a simple elegant dress with statement accessories. I think that the accessories can say it all. I prefer to shop online because there are so many more choices. Carlisle does not have many options when it comes to shopping. Shopping online can also save money, as many online stores have sales and deals to watch for. The only problem with online shopping is making sure it fits. Sometimes if I’m unsure, I will order the same dress in two different sizes and send back the one that doesn’t fit!
