Say goodbye to the ghosts of backpacks past

The backpack, a nifty bag filled with binders, textbooks, and love notes. Yet they can be a fashion statement as well.
Just a few years ago, the most popular backpack was either clear or had two wheels that rolled from class to class.
As students roam the halls, it is apparent that bags have enhanced stylistically. The accessory has evolved so drastically that it is hard to tell if the bag is intended for school.
Forget one zipper. Now, multiple zippers as well as pockets have joined forces.
They are not just used for school utensils either.
Need a place to store your makeup? Your backpack has a compartment for that. Need extra storage for your cell phone? Your backpack has a space for that, too.
Not only have the components changed but the style has.
Characters from every television series are printed on the bags. Stores like Spencer’s and Hot Topic carry characters from “SpongeBob,” “Adventure Time” and ‘Regular Show.” These classic character bags will bring out anyone’s inner child.
If you are looking for a more sophisticated look, bags such as purses and totes fit the agenda. They come in diverse sizes and patterns. Both sequins and jewels can embellish the bags for a girly feel.
Don’t worry because if purses are not your forte, normal backpacks are the perfect carrier for you, but not just any backpack: Vera Bradley bags.
These beautiful quilted patterned and colored Vera Bradley bags come as totes, backpacks and even petite carrier bags. The best place around to buy these adorable bags is at the Susquehanna House located at 162 York Road in Carlisle, PA. Prices do run higher due to the designer of the bag, but there are many other stores such as Macy’s and TJ Maxx.
Macy’s and TJ Maxx have the same name brand bags, but each item run at lower prices. Lower prices are indeed happy prices.

I’ve found that over the years of going through different types of backpacks and as more books and binders are added to the bulk, it’s better to go with practical. My last backpack lasted me three years before finally falling apart. I’ve learned to add a “cute” touch with buttons and things like that.

Although I love the different kinds of backpacks that are seen throughout the school halls, personally, I like taking my creativity to enhance my everyday things. For example, I have a JanSport backpack, a hot pink one. Once I brought it home from the store, I realized that it was a little boring, so I found some old pieces of lace that I had laying around from past art projects, and I created my own pattern on my boring backpack by using modpodge (a kind of glue) to make it more interesting. I have it covering different parts of my bag, much like you would see on the store-bought bags. So if you are having trouble with your old backpack, don’t be afraid to bring new life to it by adding different accessories!

I, too like to walk around the halls in style with a cute backpack, but there are some drawbacks. For the past couple of years, I have experimented with different patterned backpacks from various stores. However, I have found that although adorable, they are not very practical. For many brands, cute seems to equal small in size, which doesn’t suit the average high-schooler’s load. In my recent backpacks, I have been able to fit only my agenda, a notebook, some personal items, and maybe a binder. I would be left carrying two other binders, a text book, and a water bottle to and from every class. In addition to the tiny capacity, the previous backpacks I have owned have not been very high quality. After only a few weeks, I would find holes, ripped out lining, missing snaps, and other frustrating problems. Some were fixable, while others I just had to accept. Finally I began to question whether it was really worth all of these inconveniences just to be “stylish.” I decided to look for a higher quality bag, and I settled for a backpack from JanSport. Although it is not the most “high-fashoin,” it has a cute, low-profile design, is capacious, and seems to be extremely durable. So far, my decision to trade cute for practical has been a great one!

I always love picking out my backpack for my new school year. I get one every year from South Carolina so that I know no one will have the same one as me! To me, my backpack makes my year because I love, love, love, to walk around with everyone wondering where I got my backpack!
