Big, bulky, different and cute: Modern glasses are seen on individuals of all vision abilities
December 14, 2013
Gone are the chants of “Four eyes” or “Book worm.” When someone wears glasses, it is not for theirr blurred vision, but their 20/20 fashion decisions. Eye glasses have become common all across the board.
Glasses not only enhance your eye sight, but your eye color. Junior Tiffany Bailey said, “The glasses make your eyes pop. My glasses are brown on the outside and blue in the inside.”
Along with complimenting your personal style, glasses showcase the key personality of an individual.
Known for her “big, bulky, different, and cute” glasses, senior Rachel Herring said glasses “explain your personality and how you carry yourself. Small circular glasses are usually worn by people serious about teaching and learning. My glasses make me feel like an old man; it’s a way to describe my maturity level.”
Different brands such as Candies, Armani Exchange, and Calvin Klein have added prints such as floral and cheetah to compliment each individual’s style.
The style of geek chic has popularized over the past years. Glasses such as Ray Bans have been made especially for the trending fashion. They bring back the retro look, but with a little more flare. You can find these glasses for $80 to $200.
Senior Adriana Somma said, “I think eyes glasses are much more about style now, than anything. I like it though. You can make a statement with something as simple as “nerdy” looking glasses. I like a pair of slightly oversized glasses; a pair from the 70’s or 80’s is always cool.”
Allegheny Optical, an eye optometrist located at 40 Noble Road and 319 York Road, in Carlisle has numerous shelves of glasses for men, women, and children. Each self showcases different styles suitable for potential buyers.
Not only do doctor offices provide the beloved frames but websites such as Visionworks.com and Coastal.com have popular glasses with amazing discounts. At Coastal.com, first time buyers can get their glasses for free, and it is worth it. With over 75 brands to choose from, shopping for glasses will be a fun activity to do out of the privacy of your own home.

Amber this is so ture! If your forced to wear glasses on a daily bases then you might as well rock the ones that are in style. They can be away to pump up a already good school outfit.

I sometimes wish I could wear glasses because it is such a big trend.

As someone who has needed vision correction since fourth grade, I find it interesting that people would *choose* to wear glasses; I got contacts as soon as I possibly could! Though I was never teased about my glasses, I thought they took away from my appearance and they were always getting in the way. Call me “old school,” but I still find it hard to believe that this once-practical invention has turned into fashion statement. I do, however, admire those who can rock glasses!

I used to think the same way, Miranda! As soon as I could get contacts, I did. But now I sometimes will wear my glasses to add a little something to an outfit 😛 If my eyes are going to be awful, I decided I might as well have fun with it sometimes

Amber, love the article! I’m going to get new glasses at my appointment this weekend, so I’ll keep these styles in mind! 🙂
