Senior Books: Fun or Traumatizing?
Seniors at CHS have an assignment called “The Senior Book.” The underclassmen have heard of this project, and all of them have different thoughts. Is this a scary or exciting assessment?
Junior Devin Newman stated, “I get the vibe from my senior friends that the senior book isn’t really that har;, it’s just doing it that bothers them. I’m looking forward to it because it seems like an easy grade.”
Some students think it’s more serious than a simple book as they may be concerned with failing their senior year.
Sophomore Kassidi Junkins said, “I don’t really know what the senior book is, but it seems like a big chunk of our official English grade. Senioritis seems like a real thing, I don’t want to slack as a student and fail 12th grade all because of a book full of memories.”
Students have heard from relatives/friends that have been through the experience of writing their own senior book.
Junior Devante Floyd said, “My cousin Terrence that graduated year 2013 said it was a challenge but it was nice reflecting on the past memories that went on throughout his life. So I guess you could say I’m looking forward to it in ways.”
Others are looking forward to it, as if they’d like to do it every other year or so instead of only senior year.
Junior Briana Berrios said, “Well, I’m excited to do the senior book because it’ll have a basic summary of these years, like all the memories I’ll want to have after high school.”
Senior books can be a hassle to some, but to others, they aren’t just an assignment–they’re a way of saying goodbye to high school.

I find Senior Book to be very unnecessary. There could be other ways to teach us the strategies. I wish that they would take out Senior Book from the 12th grade English curriculum.

When I was an underclassman, I didn’t even think about Senior Book because I didn’t feel like having to worry about it. Now that it’s here, I dread having to do it every other week. The only bonus is that the chapters are pretty easy points.

Senior book is an okay assignment as it seems that it was assigned with a good purpose in mind. However, I don’t particularly enjoy it. Something about being forced to reminisce kind of irks me, I don’t know.

I enjoy senior book chapters as much as you can enjoy a homework assignment (ha-ha). Senior book is much easier than other things we are assigned; I much prefer it to analysis essays or reading big chunks of books. It is a less stressful assignment to me because it is all about me, and it doesn’t have to be written in a formal tone. It’s fun now to go back and analyze my elementary-school-self, so I can’t wait to look back at the final book years from now. I appreciate these assignments because they are simple, fun, and they are easy points.

I am excited to look back at all of my senior book entries all organized in a scrapbook at the end of the year! I like doing crafts and it should be a fun project putting it all together. However, the senioritis has hit pretty hard and it is sometimes a struggle to get it done, but I think it will be work it.

That’s interesting, I never really thought of senior books as a way of saying bye to high school. It is not that hard to write, it is mostly just annoying. While it is sometimes enjoyable to think about old memories, it is not something I want to do on a biweekly basis. I also sometimes forget to turn in the chapters until the very last minute! Basically, doing the senior book isn’t too bad, but I’d much rather not have to do it at all.

I actually really enjoy writing the senior books!! I like looking back and writing about different aspects of my life thus far. I am also really excited to put it all together because I love scrapbooking and pictures. I find the biweekly chapters to usually be an easy write and an easy grade…I just have to remember to turn them in!!

Being a senior I can say that the senior seems like it shouldn’t be a big deal but when you have to write one every other week it starts to be a drag. They might be only worth ten points but once you don’t do one you end up blowing off another one then when the end of the year comes you have to make them up or you take another hit so just got to stay with it.

I think it is fun trying to remember old memories that I had forgotten about. But sometimes I feel like its hard to get everything down in writing. Its hard to describe what I was feeling and what I experienced at the time. It will be nice to reread some of the essays a few years down the road.
