Snails vs. Racers: the halls of CHS
Slow walkers in the hall, can it get any worse?
Students in the halls of CHS have a lot to say about regarding the topic. Some people have different opinions on it of course, ranging from the kids who like walking slowly and some despising the people who walk slower than a snail within the halls.
“I wouldn’t say I hate them. But I don’t like them or like when they stand there in the middle,” said senior Taylor Killinger
How can we get these students to move a little faster? Some students want the halls to be viewed as a highway or road.
The hallways are not for social interaction. It is always one big traffic jam and for those who want to be on time, it’s hard to escape the clogged halls.
Walking down the hall you should keep other people in mind when trying to get to class. You need to allow others to get where they are going, because time is also limited. For those who also have to stop at their lockers to switch out text ooks, nothing is more stressing than the feeling of being late and getting a write up.
Is it fair that you make others late because you’re to busy chitchatting with your buddies? Absolutely not, you should always put others before yourself.
Senior Shannon Hestor said, “I like to step on the back of their heels to make them keep walking. I get really mad, and don’t know what else to do. I can not just walk around them because the halls are aligned with people and large groups.”
On the other hand slow walkers think it makes them cool. They like being the last ones into class and to have eyes on them when entering a classroom or maybe they just don’t feel like being at school.
Junior Terrell Wilkenson said, “I walk really slowly to class, because I don’t feel like getting to class. I take my time. I am a lazy walker.”
Walking slow in school is a sign that students just have no energy to get to where they need to be.
“I walk extra slow because I don’t need to rush. Who cares if I am a minute or two late? I still get all my work done and I have good grades,” said, freshman Kiaren Wallace.
Walking slow has its pros and cons. But more and more people seem to hate it because they have places to be.
“I walk slow in the hallways because I am not ready to go to class, and don’t get much time to socialize with my closest friends who aren’t in my classes.,“ said Junior Will Hammer.
So are you a dilly dally in the hall or a fast pace walker who likes to be one time?

Personally, I am a speed walker. I admit, I am the rusher. I have to ping back and forth between McGowan and Swartz, and a lot of my teachers are really picky about tardiness. I know that there will always be people a bit slower than me, who have more time to get to their classes that are closer together then mine are, but I still think it is kind of ridiculous just how slow some people are walking while I am trying my best not to be late.

I love this article, it really shows people to be watchful of how they are walking, like if you walk slow, just move to the side, and if you walk fast, I’m sure you really don’t need to get to class that fast, slow your roll! Great article! 🙂

I enjoy this article greatly. I feel that it needs to be known that there are two types of people in the hallways. There are the ones who don’t care and aren’t worried about being in class on time. Then there are the ones who like being in class on time and do their warm ups. All the clogging in the hallway can cause them to not be able to accomplish this goal. I think this article is well written and the situation in put into context correctly.

We apologize for this situation. We are changing the photo now.
Don't worry about it. • Feb 23, 2015 at 10:51 pm
You told my class to come out and take this photo. We didn’t crowd anything.

As sometimes being a super slow walker and sometimes a super fast one, I think that people walking slowly should be allowed to as long as they don’t take up the entire hallway. They should leave room for other people to go around them. What annoys me is when there is a group of people in the middle of the hallway just standing there. This is just inconsiderate.
