Who/what inspired you to submit to the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition?
“Mrs. Treffinger told me about it, so I decided to give it a shot.”
What do you like about it?
“I think it’s cool how you can win something for being creative.”
What are you most proud of?
“I don’t really have a lot of things to be proud of but if I had to pick something I’d have to say how far I’ve come with the help of people in my life.”
What do you look to for inspiration for pieces?
“Music. I really like music. I grew up listening to classic rock and other forms of rock from my dad and brothers. Music has been a big part of my life and still is. It affects my mood a lot.”
How does it feel to be a Gold Key Winner?
“It feels good. I haven’t won many things but I’m proud of my piece.”
Who is your favorite author/artist? What is one outstanding quote or piece from that author/artist that inspires you?
“I actually don’t really look at a lot of art to inspire me. I don’t want to copy anyone or anything, I want to be original.”
Describe your winning piece.
“My piece is a statue with the body of an angel (looking like he has a robe on), his face has very little detail with a hood over his head, and his hands are bound together, making him look captured. The point of him is to represent how everything negative can bring you down and how the world ‘captures’ you or changes a person. His name is Forloned, meaning ‘lonely,’ or ‘the lonely one’ is what I first called him.”
