Turkeys and traditions: students discuss Thanksgiving favorites

Pumkins and pinecones are fun decorative symbols of the fall. Thanksgiving is a time for family and friends to come together.

When you think of Thanksgiving many things can come to mind, from the traditional foods of turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and stuffing to spending time with important people in your life. Most importantly, it’s a time to think of everything you are thankful for in life.

Every family has there own way of celebrating Thanksgiving.  Some will make their own twist on traditional foods, while others like to stick to the classics.  So we asked CHS students what their favorite part of Thanksgiving is.

“Getting together with family.” said Senior Starlee Kelley.

Kelley also added that everyone comes to her house and they eat lots of delicious food.

Senior Katira Ramirez Ramos also enjoys Thanksgiving, for the same reason Kelley does.

“My family getting together and getting to eat food,” said Ramos.

However, Ramos, has some different foods that her family dines on at Thanksgiving, foods that may not come to mind when you think of a traditional meal.

“Of course we have turkey but also rice and pasta,” said Ramos.

CHS students also told us what some of their favorite Thanksgiving foods were.

Sophomore Hannah O’Donnell said, “My grandfather’s sweet potatoes because they’re good homemade potatoes.”

Sophomore Annelise DeYoung also enjoys potatoes at Thanksgiving.

“Cheesy potatoes and pumpkin chiffon pie,” said DeYoung.

But for sophomore Sierra Jones, she enjoys the main dish for a good Thanksgiving meal.

Jones said, “Turkey, who doesn’t love turkey? It’s the best part of Thanksgiving.”

No matter what you enjoy, we hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving break.
