The Claw Clip Comeback
In recent years we have seen the re-emergence of 80s, 90s, and 2000s fashion in new and bold ways. Whether it is through mom jeans, scrunchies, or sweater vests, all ages alike are embracing these comebacks full force.
Specifically, the renewal of claw clips caught the attention of major outlets such as Harper’s Bazaar, InStyle, and Forbes after celebrities such as Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and Hailey Bieber were spotted wearing them.
It seems as though recently the students of Carlisle High School have given in to this trend as well and have begun sporting claw clips as their everyday hair accessories.
The question is why are these small clips coming back in such a big way?
One of the main reasons shared by many is that it is gentler on the hair than other alternatives such as hair elastics and scrunchies. Instead of putting strain on such a small part of the hair, it wraps around the hair, equally distributing the force. This not only provides your scalp with a break but also limits hair breakage.
They also allow you to spice up your outfit by incorporating clips with interesting patterns or styles. You can find ones made of plastic, wood, and more both online and in the stores like Walmart, Target, and Dollar Tree at affordable prices.
Junior Anastasia Chovanes said, “I like them because [they] just adds a little bit of fun to something that would otherwise be a boring way to put up my hair”.
This idea was seconded by junior Salix Martin when they said, “I like it because it’s something different.”
Additionally, it is easier to manipulate claw clips to create everyday looks. Other accessories like scrunchies are so tight that it proves difficult to make them loose.
Sophomore Kassie Kauffman said, “I like it because it feels more casual than ponytails” since she finds it difficult to shape her hair to look “messy but cute” with hair ties.
These accessories are much easier to remove from your hair as well since they do not become intertwined in your hair.
Junior Hazel Bomar said, “They are easy to put in for a quick hairstyle and don’t get stuck in my hair” which is something that she struggled with previously.

I love that “older” trends are coming back! I love using claw clips to put my hair up without putting my hair in a ponytail. I also love to do the half up, half down looks.

Claw clips are most definitely a slay! The only negative is that they are super uncomfortable to wear while driving since the headrest pushes the clip into your head.
