Tim McMaster- Libertarian
Scope: What are your top three priorities if elected?
TM: My top priorities will be: Property Tax reform/reduction/elimination, supporting Defend The Guard legislation to keep the PA Guard IN PA absent a Congressional formal declaration of war, and to remove prosecution of victimless crimes.
Scope: Pennsylvania is a major swing state; if elected how do you plan to unify the state population?
TM: My goal is to show the citizens of PA that they and not the state government (or federal government for that matter) are the absolute authority on their lives. And that their freedom and liberty are critically important to me.
Scope: What are your plans for alleviating higher education costs?
TM: I think that we as a society should focus attention on teaching to the student, and not to the tests. This would be best achieved by opening up alternative means of education… Home Schooling, Charter Schooling, etc. Focusing on steering students who are so inclined towards trade schools and apprenticeships. The current ‘One Size Fits All” methodology is obviously failing our students.
Scope: Where do you stand on Roe v. Wade and Obergefell v. Hodges and how do you plan to act on your position?
TM: It is my deeply held believe that no government has authority over these matters. Not to legalize or outlaw them, nor to fund them. These are PERSONAL LIBERTY questions, and the ultimate arbiter of these decisions is the individual.
Scope: Gun violence in schools is a worry for many school students across the state. If elected, how do you plan to combat this in office?
TM: Violence in general, no matter the instrument used, in our society is a scourge. I think these decisions are bets made as LOCAL as possible. If a local school board decides to allow teachers who are trained to be armed, that is what works for them, but that may not work for other districts. The ultimate responsibility should rest as locally as is possible.
Scope: Why should high school students vote for you?
TM: Of all the candidates currently on the ballot for this office, I am the only one who, at the end of the day, only cares about increasing the LIBERTY of the citizens. I am not a politician, I am a farmer, father, husband, son. I am just one voice trying to encourage others to stand up for liberty and be true to their ideals. IF I were to inspire just ONE person to stand up and say “I HAVE HAD ENOUGH! And I am going to do something about it!!” I would consider this campaign a success. This is a movement about LIBERTY.
